Welcome to Top Record Players!
Here you will find anything to do with turntables, from articles on caring and maintaining a record player, to ones on how to properly use a turntable, to guides and reviews to help you find the right model to you, to articles about vinyl records. And more!
How did this all get started?
Let’s find out! We’ll begin with the reason Top Record Players exists in the first place.
My Mission
My mission at Top Record Players is to help you enjoy vinyl music.
To achieve that, I aim to write guides to help you find the right record player, guides to help you use and maintain your turntable, and articles answering any other questions you may have.
My Story
My name is David Richard and I am actually a high school music teacher. But I used to run a little store selling turntables here in the suburbs of Spokane, WA.
I loved my store, but unfortunately, I had to close it a few years back. There simply wasn’t enough demand in my area for record players. Especially not vintage and antique units, which is what I mostly sold.
Once the internet took off, anyone who wanted a record player simply went online to get it. It was easier and the prices were better. There was no way I could match Amazon.
So I closed up shop, but I always wanted to get back into it somehow. Teaching music to kids is great, but I also wanted to do something that focused on vinyl. That’s why I started this site.
I don’t make much money with it (basically, I break even), but I also don’t lose money. Running a brick and mortar store is expensive. Running a website costs $100 a month or so.
Top Record Players allows me to write about my passion, while at the same time (hopefully) helping others who are interested in getting into vinyl. I love that.
But I honestly had no idea what I was doing here. So I found some help a few years back.
The Team
Ok, so it’s mainly still just me. I run the day-to-day operations of the site. I also write almost all of the articles myself.
But I have partnered with McBrain Global, who are in the business of running websites. Their expertise has helped a lot. My site looks a lot better now than it used to. And it runs more efficiently, too.
They have also helped me hire a team of sorts.
Really, the “team” was just a few writers who handle some of the newer articles on the site. They are also vinyl enthusiasts with a wealth of knowledge to share and far better writing skills than I have.
Unfortunately, they also do not have a ton of time. They are only able to write the occasional article and most of them have recently gotten too busy to contribute at all anymore. So it is mostly me again. I don’t have much free time either, but I will do as much as I can.
My Responsibility
I believe in maintaining the highest standards of editorial integrity. My guiding principle is to put the quality of information first.
- I focus on evidence-based content. All my claims are backed by scientific literature that is duly quoted in each article.
- I use subject matter experts to write or edit/review all my content.
- I only use the highest quality sources to research my content.
- I regularly revisit and update pages on this site with the latest information.
I use ads and affiliate marketing to fund my operations, but commissions never influence my recommendations. I also maintain a strict policy against accepting sponsorships to avoid any conflicts of interest.
Where Do You Go Now?
If you are here, it means you are interested in record players in some way. What you need exactly determines where you go from here.
Your best bet is to take a look at the menu above and find the section that interests you. If you’re not sure, here are the two most visited sections on this site.
- Buying A Turntable: This section features everything you need to find the perfect record player for you.
- Using A Turntable: This section features articles on using a turntable correctly, to ensure it continues to operate like new for many years to come.
I hope you enjoy the content I worked so hard to put together. Of course, I know my site could use a lot of improvements. That’s where you come in.
If you have any questions not answered here or suggestions to make this site better, let me know. And if you have any questions about record players you’d like me to address, I’d be happy to write an article on the topic (I’m always looking for new article ideas).
And if you have any suggestions for improving my site, I’d love to hear those, too.
The best way to contact me is at toprecordplayers@gmail.com or using the contact info on this page.
